ABOUT THE ROLE

Overview

The Controller is responsible for the financial management, including financial planning, financial reporting, fund management and performs analysis on key financial indicators. The Controller is responsible for the organisation’s system of internal control and monitors compliance with it. This role is within the Finance & Operations directorate, that supports and facilitates the operational units globally, and reports to Director of Finance & Operations


Areas of responsibility

  • Maintain a strong system of internal control and continuously improve compliance with policies, procedures, processes and regulations
  • Develop financial annual plans, strategic plans, budgets, forecasts, reports and analyses;
  • Oversee the reporting cycle. Perform reviews to ensure the quality of accounting records and justification documents; Perform final checks on financial and year-end closures
  • Prepare annual statements and coordinates statutory and project audit ensuring a high quality for accountability material. Ensure that recommendations from in- and external audits are implemented and disseminated throughout the organization.
  • Develop budgets for funding proposals that comply with (donor) guidelines, including the identification and assessment of financial risks
  • Review and monitor contractual commitments, including the timely invoicing of project costs to partners and donors
  • Prepare and present financial reports and project overviews to internal and external stakeholders, ensuring that all supporting documents for donor reporting are made available according to donor requirements
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of Information Systems and General Ledger
  • Implementing risk management policy, risk management procedures and identifying potential problem areas therein, proposing mitigation actions and preparing risk reports as required;
  • Coach and train financial and non-financial staff on financial management and internal control.

Job requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business Administration required, MBA or MSc in Finance preferred.
  • A professional qualification such as CA, ACCA or CIMA will be an added advantage.
  • At least 10 years of relevant professional experience, with a minimum of 5 years’ in an international organisation or international NGO;
  • Relevant experience in developing and implementing policies, procedures, processes, contracts and training;
  • Good knowledge of and experience with international donors.
  • Experience in supporting and advising a global and multi-cultural team of highly skilled professionals;
  • Hard worker, hands-on experience, can-do mentality, highly professional supportive attitude;
  • Excellent communications and relationship skills
  • Good proficiency in Microsoft Office and ERP financial software and contract management systems.
