WHO WE ARE
The Global Center on Adaptation (GCA) is an international organization working to accelerate action on adapting to climate change. We support adaptation solutions at the international and the local levels, partnering with the public and the private sector.
Our focus is firmly on those who are most vulnerable to the effects of climate change; communities least prepared to withstand the health, social, and economic impacts of the climate emergency are our priority.
Founded in 2018, our organization is based in regional offices across key global locations. Our Europe office is located in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, in the largest floating office in the world. We also have regional offices in Kenya, Ivory Coast, Bangladesh, and Beijing, as well as a dedicated knowledge and research hub in Groningen, the Netherlands.
Our work encompasses high-level policy development, research, agenda-setting and advocacy to drive faster and deeper climate adaptation. We collaborate closely with partners to ensure the effective and efficient delivery of results where they are most needed.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
As a Internal Communications Intern, you will gain comprehensive experience in a range of communications skills, including copywriting, graphic design, and video editing. You will be expected to work independently on various internal communications projects while developing proficiency in new design and video editing tools. This hands-on learning approach will help you enhance your technical abilities and creativity, enabling you to produce optimized digital content for both internal and external communications platforms, such as social media, newsletters, and websites.
Working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, you'll strengthen your ability to adapt quickly, collaborate across teams, and communicate with clarity and purpose. You’ll also deepen your understanding of organizational tone, employee engagement, and the political and diplomatic nuances that are essential for shaping messages that reflect internal culture and values.
You will work closely with a Senior Communications Officer and GCA HR team who will provide guidance and feedback on your content production efforts. They will also offer training in advanced design and video editing techniques to help you meet professional standards. By the end of the internship, you will have a robust portfolio of internal communication materials and a deeper understanding of how to engage and inform employees through clear, strategic messaging. This role offers an excellent opportunity to refine your communications skills in a dynamic, mission-driven environment—preparing you for future roles in internal communications, employee engagement, and organizational development.
Your tasks will include, but won’t be limited to:
Internal Newsletter
Take the lead on producing the weekly internal newsletter: collect updates from teams, write engaging content in Mailchimp, proofread, and ensure alignment with GCA's tone, messaging, and values.
Conduct research, gather feedback, and analyze engagement metrics to continuously improve the newsletter's strategy and content relevance.
Internal Materials & Branding
Copyedit and proofread internal content to ensure consistency in tone, language, and messaging in line with GCA's values and organizational culture.
Format and design internal materials (e.g., brochures, presentations, reports) to enhance visual appeal and clarity.
Develop compelling content and campaigns that support and reflect GCA's internal priorities and brand identity.
Employee Branding & Engagement
Support employee branding efforts both internally and externally by creating campaign materials, writing articles, and contributing to storytelling initiatives.
Collaborate across departments-particularly HR, Operations, and Communications to ensure internal messaging is aligned with organizational goals and distributed effectively.

Comfortable working independently and managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Basic familiarity with content management systems and internal communication tools such as WordPress, Mailchimp, or Microsoft Viva connections.
Based in the Netherlands with four days in the office is required.
Exposure to team collaboration or project work within a communications, HR, or corporate setting.
