Who we are?
The Global Center on Adaptation (GCA) is an international organization that works as a solutions broker to catalyze action and support for adaptation solutions, from the international to the local, in partnership with the public and private sector, to ensure shared learning and collaboration for a climate resilient future.

GCA’s flagship program in Africa – the Africa Adaptation Acceleration Program (AAAP) –is a bold and ambitious response to the climate crisis and the adaptation challenges facing Africa. Since its launch with the African Development Bank and African Union in January 2021, the AAAP Upstream Financing Facility in GCA has already influenced US$5.4 billion in downstream investments financed by AfDB and other partners, including the World Bank Group, in the areas of food security, infrastructure and nature-based solutions, youth entrepreneurship and adaptation jobs, and adaptation finance. This ‘AAAP’ model is now being scaled up to Asia, starting with developing a country level work program in Bangladesh.

The success of GCA’s work under the AAAP and in Bangladesh rests on rapidly conceptualizing and implementing a clear and agile strategy that brings outputs and activities into focus on influencing downstream investments channeled through Development Finance Institutions and Multilateral Development Banks, Global Climate Finance Organizations such as the Green Climate Fund, and Private Financial Institutions. These outputs and activities are delivered through six Programs that focus on designing and implementing activities to influence investments in adaptation and resilience building that yield high economic dividends for nations and can accelerate the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. Each Program has business lines that are designed to prioritize adaptation needs and to integrate adaptation solutions into investments to ensure that countries leverage limited investment resources to optimize the adaptation dividend. The six programs include: (i) Food Security; (ii) Infrastructure and Nature-Based Solutions (NbS); (iii) Urban and Water; (iv) Youth Entrepreneurship and Adaptation Job; (v) Locally Led Adaptation; and (vi) Climate Finance.

GCA’s approach in Asia is country-based with regional/global connections. Therefore, the focus in Bangladesh is on NbS and infrastructure; local-led adaptation including a global hub; and climate finance.

GCA is a rapidly growing organization with offices in Abidjan, Beijing, Dhaka, Groningen, and Rotterdam.
